Right Brain Rampage

I think expressionism is art that allows for the representation of emotion in its raw, intense state as long as it is interesting and with the purpose of showing emotions. As I have noted through today's class the best and most common fors are dealing with emotions of suffering and death that make viewers uncomfortable yet spiritual. I remember this while watching Metropolis last year. From the few black and white film clips in class, and even the Alan Berge Wozzeck opera where the colors where grim and monotone, I noticed that this creates a dismal sense to the work. As for the poetry, most poems are about pain coming from love, death, war... Expressionism is quite dramatic, perhaps even overdramatic but it works because it is portrayed as completely real. In the Twilight Zone episode, superstition was a real threat to the man and we followed his fear throughout the show.
